Ghost estate progress welcomed – CIF

The Construction IndustryFederation (CIF) has welcomed the news that work is being progressed to makecertain ghost estates liveable.  The CIF has urged the Government tocontinue this work and the process of developing site resolution plans for theghost estate sites around Ireland.

Speaking in reaction to thelatest announcement, CIF Director General Tom Parlon said, “The news that morethan 770 site resolution plans have been developed is positive.  It isvital that this work continues and that the remaining ghost estates arecategorized.  That will provide a detailed blueprint for thesedevelopments and create a more detailed picture of the ghost estate issue inthis country.”

“It is of the utmostimportance that the work to make these ghost estates liveable continues. Where practical it makes more sense to ensure these ghost estates can beoccupied.  In many cases considerable funding has been put into the workthat has already been done.  If a ghost estate can be finished to ensureit will offer safe accommodation, then that would seem like the most sensibleoption."

“Minister Jan O’Sullivanspoke at length about the progress of the various ghost estate cases.  TheCIF welcomes the progress made to date and that the Department’s work is takinginto account the input of all the various stakeholders in this matter.  Wehope those discussions will continue and that this will lead to furtherresolution for the ghost estate issue,” Mr. Parlon concluded.
